Hurrican Irma to hit Florida coastlands

Hurricane Irma, an extremely dangerous category four storm slammed into the Florida Keys this morning and is now aiming toward the western coast of Florida and the mainland United States. The very dangerous storm is expected to pack with it winds in excess of 155 mph, 12-15 feet of storm surge and over 12 inches of rain. Along with damage from the tornado force winds officials told the Washington Post that they expect heavy coastal flooding. Irma has already claimed nearly a dozen lives and more deaths are anticipated as this killer storm makes landfall in the USA.

“The Keys through Tampa will likely experience the worst storm surge event that area has seen in generations, Bill Read, a former Hurricane Center director told the Washington Post.

The Washington Post also stated that when Irma hit Florida so closely after Hurricane Harvey devastated the Texas coast, it marked the first time that two category four storms have ever made landfall in the USA in the same year. The Post also said that due to the magnitude of Hurricane Irma the entire state of Florida has been placed on alert and under a state of emergency. The Post went on to say that tropical storm conditions were expected to effect much of Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina by Monday.

Many people have stated that this hurricane season and the earthquake that stuck off of the coast of Mexico is proof that the end of the world has drawn near. Could this truly be the case? God’s word is unclear as to when the end of the world will come but there are certain signs that are to occur when the end draws near. Among those signs are catastrophic events such as Hurricane Irma. However catastrophic events have occurred since before the New Testament was completed. For example we know that at least a dozen people were killed and who knows how many were wounded when a tower fell during Jesus’ ministry. We also read of other catastrophic events. The point is that we are not to attempt to predict when the end is coming but rather to be ever watchful for the end. Jesus said to repent or like those killed in catastrophic events we too will perish. Nobody is above sin and God does not see one sinner as any worse than another. Hurricanes and other events happen. Just be spiritually prepared and admonish others to be prepared.
