Hearing God's voice with Lana Vawser
By Kyle Patterson
Lana Vawser’s all consuming passion is to know God and make him known. Now she’s taking the message on the road and ministering to audiences around the world teaching intimacy with God and helping release God’s people into all he has for them in this season.
After getting saved at a Baptist church youth group at the age of 16, Lana Vawser was consumed with a passion to know Jesus. She describes what she calls, “an incredible hunger and thirst to hear from him.” That hunger led her to spend hours and hours a day in her bedroom, on the floor, crying out that he would speak to her. Since that time (1996) the Lord has led her on a journey to know him and make him known, something that is coming to pass daily through her writing on social media sites like Facebook and through her speaking assignments around the world.
Her passion now is to serve the people of God to move into the place of hearing from God and what that looks like everyday.
Lana encourages people to make space for God to speak by positioning your heart to hear from. I would just sit there and I wouldn’t hear anything, but what the Lord taught me in that season was that it was about my conditioning and my availability and my positioning everyday to take time to hear from him. Slowly he began to train her how to hear. The word was my compass always. As I began to do this the Lord would begin to train me. I would get really strong impressions about things before they would happen.
“I encourage people to maintain your positioning, no matter what make sure you are taking the time to give God the space to speak. There is something about our positioning everyday with the word and coming to him and asking him, Lord what do you want to say to me today?”
Next Vawser encourages people to write down what you sense the Lord saying,
“Begin journaling and don’t be afraid to write down what you begin to hear. What things was I hearing, what was bubbling to the surface? Ask the Lord for confirmation. He not only wants to speak, but he wants to confirm his word. Cultivate that awareness and pray for sensitivity and that the Lord would remove those obstacles out of the way that prevent us from haring. Don’t worry if it’s God or if it’s not God, journal it and then you can look back on it.”
Like Paul who said, “I desire that all of you prophesy,” Lana believes experiencing intimacy with God and moving in the prophetic is for every believer,
“Then step out. Get with a friend who you trust and ask God for something for each other. There is such power in learning and prophesying together. If you get it wrong, pick yourself back up and move forward.”
