14 of God's promises for your children from the Bible
By Kyle Patterson
Mother's Day has a way of reminding us of the importance of our ministry as a parent and our opportunity to invest in the next generation. Here is a list of some of the promises from God concerning the fruit of our labor and ministry to our children, a ministry that takes no days off, never stops, and stretches us beyond our wildest imaginations, yet is worth every minute. Here are a list of just a few of the Scriptures I would encourage others to pray faithfully over their children.
All your children shall be taught of Lord; and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13
Our children are never too young to know Christ in a real way. Pray that God will direct our children’s hearts into the love of God and the fellowship of the Spirit.
I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, ...your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28
Our children are hungry for the fullness of God’s presence and power, not entertainment. Pray and believe for the power of God to be poured out on this next generation.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of Me,” saith the Lord. Is. 54:17
There will be things, people, circumstances, and opposition to our children’s walk with God, but by faith they will overcome and receive the promise of God.
Isaiah 59:21 “And as for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD: “My Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children’s offspring,” says the LORD, “from this time forth and forevermore.”
The word of God will be held in esteem in our children’s lives and their children’s lives. You are starting a godly heritage that future generations will reap the blessing of for many years to come.
Psalms 102:28 The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you.
Our children will have their safety and security in the Lord Jesus and in their relationship with him. He alone is their fortress, their strength, hope, protection, and favor.
Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Psalms 112:1-2
Our children will be mighty for the Lord, unmovable, full of truth, and steadfast in Christ.
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They shall spring up among the grass like willows by flowing streams. 5 This one will say, ‘I am the LORD’s,’ another will call on the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ and name himself by the name of Israel. Isaiah 44:3-5
Our children’s identity will be in who they are in Christ, not in the things of this world. Not in their jobs, education, or social status. Christ is the foundation that can never be shaken.
I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 Their offspring shall be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are an offspring the LORD has blessed. Isaiah 61:8-9
Our children will be carriers of the glory of God and people will be able to see the glory of God upon them.
They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity, for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the LORD, and their descendants with them. Isaiah 65:23
Our children will walk in the fullness of the power and peace of Christ.
The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him. Proverbs 20:7
A man reaps what he sows. Your faithfulness to the Lord will impact future generations and provide a sure foundation for them.
In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge. Proverbs 14:26 I
Your relationship with God will provide security and a model of where your children will turn in hard times and good times. They will know and see God’s faithfulness to you
I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them. Jeremiah 32:39
Your children will grow in faith by watching your faith in action.
And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Acts 16:31-33
Your faith will impact your whole family. Even when you don't think your children/spouse are watching, they are. Your influencing people for Christ everywhere you are, everywhere you go.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
Make a decision today to serve the Lord and your whole family will follow. Never look back.
