American Pastor Imprisoned in Turkey
An American citizen serving as a pastor in Turkey spent Christmas behind bars this year after being detained for charges that he is a member of an armed terrorist organization.
This however is far from the truth according to the American Center for Law and Justice who has started a petition to free Pastor Andrew Brunson from prison. The ACLJ says the charging documents show no evidence whatsoever in regards to how Pastor Brunson is connected to or a member of a terrorist organization. Instead they and others including Franklin Graham believe this is situation is solely because of his Christian faith that he is being persecuted, without cause.
Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association put out a call through social media for people to join in praying for Brunson. Graham stated he had just spoken with Brunson's wife and added, "he was unexpectedly detained and has been unfairly charged with being a member of an armed terrorist organization and is still imprisoned. These are very serious charges. I spoke with Pastor Andrew’s wife yesterday, prayed with her, and assured her that I would share this with you. You can understand her concern."
The ACLJ indicated there is one higher level of appeals in the Turkish courts but it is uncertain how long this process will take.
As Graham stated, now is the time to pray for Pastor Brunson and his whole family.
"I ask that you join me in praying specifically for Pastor Andrew’s protection and release. Please share your encouragement and prayers with Mrs. Brunson in the comments below and I will be sure she knows. I hope you will also share this post with others who will pray.
The Bible says, “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering” (Hebrews 13:3)."
