Of Necklaces, Beads And Bad Days
By Katrina Fuller
Have you ever heard that song, "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter? It goes on and on about how this person has a bad day and ticks off a laundry list of horrible things that happened throughout the day.
I felt like I lived that song today. Nothing went right, the day dragged on and I ended up feeling worthless. However, if I really go back and put the day under a magnifying glass - it wasn't a bad day. It was a few bad moments.
We look at a day as one singular thing, when really it's just a series of moments strung together. It's like a unique necklace we put on for the day that God put together specifically for us.
Each necklace is different, but each bead has been placed there by our loving Heavenly Father. Some beads might not look the way we'd like them to. Some beads might not look like they match the other ones - but that doesn't mean those moments don't belong.
Paul explains this in Romans 8:28-30.
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
We have been foreknew, predestined, called, justified and glorified by our Heavenly Father. No matter what circumstances life can throw at us, no matter what insults are hurled in our direction and no matter what meanness rises up against us - no one can take that away from us.
A bad moment doesn't make for a bad day. Rather, it gives us an opportunity to thank God for what we know we're good moments, and see how he's going to work that "bad" moment into something good.
Our God is mightier than he who is in the world - one little bead on one necklace doesn't shake him. One little minute in a day in the midst of eons doesn't scare God. If we look to him in faith and trust that he is for us, nothing can bring us down.
Friends, next time we are having a tough time - we have to remember that one moment for us that seems difficult is nothing to our Father in Heaven. He is watching over us, guiding us and has redeemed us with grace unending. Take your bad day, exchange it for God's plan for you and rejoice that you know the Father.
That sounds like a good day to me.
