Ben Hur Debuts at the Box Office

Ben Hur released last night grossing over 4 million in its debut according to Forbes, an okay turnout for the film that cost $100 million to produce by MGM studios.

The film is a remake of the 19th Century classic - Lew Wallace’s bestselling novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.

The setting is 26A.D. and a rich prince named Judah Ben-Hur played by Jack Huston, is seeking justice.

Judah is falsely accused, enslaved and bitter for revenge. He challenges his accuser and brother to a chariot race. It’s in this context that Ben-Hur meets Jesus and his life is never the same again.

Morgan Freeman stars in the film as Sheik Ilderim and Tobey Kobbell plays Messala.

Mark Burnett and Roma Downey who produced the film told Focus on the Family,

“We approached it prayerfully,” Roma told Focus. “A constant prayer [for us] is ‘Less of me, more of You.’ And we try to get out of the way and so that when the Spirit moves we listen. It’s in every stage of this we just prayed it in and we called in prayers from the community.”
