Leaders Gather Near Washington, D.C. To Plan Strategy To Defeat ISIS
Leaders from across the world will gather today for the “Counter ISIL Coalition Communications Working Group” meetings at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, which is just outside of Washington, D.C. Today’s event will be hosted by Under Secretary of State for Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Richard Stengel.
Guests will include “defense ministers and senior leaders from nations of the counter-Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant coalition and NATO” according to the Department of Defense.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and U.S. Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter will host meetings tomorrow.
The Global Coalition to Counter ISIL is made up of 66 member nations including the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Montenegro and the United Kingdom. The goal of the Coalition is to weaken ISIS militarily and financially.
They also help civilians return to areas previously controlled by ISIS by repairing critical infrastructure.
These talks are part of a global initiative to defeat ISIS.
