How We Can Edify Others In The Body Of Christ

How We Can Edify Others In The Body Of Christ

Prayer + Intercession

We are living in a time when it has never been more important to keep our brothers and sisters in Christ under a prayer covering. With the rise of persecution, discrimination and warfare, Christians have been suffering for the cause of Christ. Whether it be a missionary on the front lines, or a pastor in the pulpit, we need to keep them in prayer. Some even think we may be entering the tribulation period. Jesus himself intercedes for us.

Prayer is a big one. Prayer costs absolutely nothing, yet can change someone’s life forever.

God wants healing for all of us. He says in his word that we can have it. But sometimes, we just need someone to pray for us! Whether it’s laying hands on us for a particular need or praying for us remotely, it’s so important. It’s been said that “there’s no distance with the Holy Spirit.” How many times has someone been praying for you and you can tangibly feel it, even if they’re in another state or another country. I know I have.

God can wake us up in the night to pray for someone, or he can put someone on our heart. When that happens, you must yield to the unction of the Holy Spirit. You never know what that person is going through at that very moment. I’ve personally heard of people being on the brink of suicide, and a friend will call them on the phone when they were about to pull the trigger.  I also heard of stories where someone was literally going to die in accident or natural disaster and God prompted someone thousands of miles away to pray for them at that exact moment.

Words of Prophecy and Knowledge

If you feel like God is giving you a word of knowledge for someone, by all means, speak! Just be sure it’s spoken in the right spirit.

Financial Support

How many Christian ministries need financial support? If you are able to connect them with the right sources of financing, then do that. Can’t afford to pay up? Then pray for them. Pray that God will provide the finances for them at the right time. In Matthew 17:27, when the Disciples needed to pay to their taxes, Jesus sent them out fishing. They just happened to find a fish with money in its mouth. Coincidence? No. Divine catch!

Or if you are a successful businessperson, prayerfully consider what ministry to support. Even if you can’t physically walk across the world as a missionary, your dollars certainly can!

Dream Interpretation

Provided that the interpretation is sound and line up with God’s word, accurate dream interpretation can really help to clarify what God is trying to say to someone. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and he set his “mind at ease.” Joseph had some clues about its meaning because Pharaoh dreamed the same thing twice. Joseph said this meant “it would happen quickly and God would surely bring it to pass.” Genesis 4:25, 32 Not only that, but Joseph gave Pharaoh practical solutions to avert the danger foreseen in the dream.

Careful on this one though that the dream interpretation doesn't become divination.

Humanitarian Aid + Volunteering

If you’re able to go on a missions trip or provide material support to a humanitarian aid organization, do it! There is always a shortage of volunteers in this area. Again, this comes back to prayer. If you’re not able to go, you can always pray for the ministry that God will connect them with the right people at the right time and will provide much needed resources.

Encouragement + Kindness

Sometimes all someone needs is a shoulder to cry on or a hug. We have to be that person! The church should be a place where you receive comfort and compassion, not judgement. Sometimes, simple kind words spoken in love will encourage someone in ways we’ll never know.

Now more than ever, we need each other. The Bible says “do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together.” Hebrews 10:25

Closing Thoughts

I have this word for those of you reading this: stick with the Lord during these times. Don’t be tempted to fall away. Remember: “We love him, because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 Run after him because he will not disappoint us. He will “never leave us nor forsake us.” Deuteronomy 31:8 He will be with us forever. In a world of increasing darkness, run after the only source of hope and light the world has ever really known.
