Rookie Alexander Rossi Wins Indianapolis 500

Alexander Rossi's win marked the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 yesterday. The Formula One driver now races for the Andretti Autosport team.

Rossi completed the final 36 laps without having to refuel. After winning the race, his car eventually ran out of fuel and had to be towed to the victory area.

In a post-race interview, Rossi said “I have no idea how we pulled it off.” Rossi’s win made him an overnight success.  The last time a rookie won the Indy 500 was 15 years ago, in 2001, when Helio Castroneves won.

Carlos Munoz finished Sunday’s race in 2nd place and Josef Newgarden finished in 3rd place.

Tonight Rossi celebrates his victory at the IndyCar banquet.
