73 Dead, Hundreds of Thousands Displaced in Landslides and Flooding In Sri Lanka

(DEVELOPING) The Associated Press reports that 73 people are dead and nearly 250,000 are displaced and living in shelters after landslides occurred in Sri Lanka. One of the heaviest hit areas is Colombo, the nation’s capital city. Japan and India are sending disaster relief to the devastated island nation.  Many people are still missing. E Science News based in Quebec, Canada reports that the landslides were triggered by a tropical cyclone in the nearby Bay of Bengal. The cyclone is named “Roanu.”
