President-Elect Trump Selects General Mattis As Secretary Of The Department Of Defense
President-elect Donald Trump has selected General James Mattis to be the Secretary of the Department of Defense, according to a statement released yesterday.
“General Mattis is the living embodiment of the Marine Corps motto, ‘Semper Fidelis,’ always faithful, and the American people are fortunate that a man of his character and integrity will now be the civilian leader atop the Department of Defense,” President-elect Trump said in the statement. “Under his leadership, we will rebuild our military and alliances, destroy terrorists and face our enemies head on, and make America safe again.”
General Mattis is a retired four-star general who served in the Marine Corps. During his lengthy military career, he led various combat operations during Operation Desert Storm, and the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His full biography is beyond the scope of this article.
In addition, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in history from Central Washington University.
