President-Elect Trump Selects Dr. Ben Carson As Secretary Of Housing And Urban Development (HUD)
President-elect Donald Trump announced in a statement today that he intends to nominate Dr. Ben Carson to be the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
“Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities and families within those communities,” President-elect Trump said in the statement. “We have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic revival, very much including our inner cities.”
Dr. Carson became a neurosurgeon after graduating from the School of Medicine at the University of Michigan. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University, where he was awarded a full scholarship.
At age 33, he became the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, according to the statement.
In addition, Dr. Carson and his wife Candy founded the Carson Scholars Fund, which for the past two decades has provided over 7,300 scholarships for deserving students nationwide.
“I am honored to accept the opportunity to serve our country in the Trump administration,” said Dr. Carson in the statement. “I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly by strengthening communities that are most in need.”
