Kentucky to Lead Nation in 2nd Annual Bible Marathon

For the second straight year, Kentucky is leading the nation in what has become known as the Bible Marathon, "celebrating the Bible's significant impact on Kentucky and American Institutions." The proclamation declares 2017 as the year of the Bible and calls upon each county in Kentucky to take shifts in reading the entire Bible, cover to cover from January 1-4, 2017.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin in the proclamation references Abraham Lincoln's love of the Bible. Lincoln is quoted as saying, 'The Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man'.

The proclamation by Gov. Matt Bevin also references leaders like Ronald Reagan and Harold S. Truman for their support and love of the Bible and its important place in American culture,

"President Ronald Reagan's 1983 Year of the Bible Proclamation stated, 'Of the many influences that have shaped the United States into a distinctive nation and people, none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible.'"
