Most Hotels Are Offering This Essential Amenity
The majority of U.S. hotels are still offering this important amenity according to a new survey by the American Hotel and Lodging Association and hotel research firm STR.
The amenity of course is the Bible, something the Gideons have been diligent in distributing free of charge to hotels around the world since the early 1900s when a traveling businessman decided he and others traveling needed access to the word of God. Today, their work continues placing the Bible at hotels, hospitals, schools, jails, medical offices, and other places around the world. Only 2% of the Bibles they distribute go to hotels, one of the reasons they have given over 1 billion Bibles away since their founding.
79% of hotels offer the Bible to their guests, up 2% from last year according to the survey. The survey found that luxury hotel brands like Marriott have decided to no longer offer the Bible, but though WIFI usage continues to surge and even digital Bible access does as well.
As early as 2006 the Bible was found at more locations than WIFI, but that statistic has changed over the last couple of years with the split now with WIFI at 98% of hotels, the Bible coming in at 79%. In 2006, 95% of hotels had Bibles, with 82% offering WIFI.
Mobile app usage, digital and audio Bibles continue to grow however. YouVersion Bible App just reported their 250 millionth download last month.
