President-elect Trump announced yesterday in a statement his intention to nominate Wilbur Ross as Secretary of the Department of Commerce and Todd Ricketts as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Commerce.

“Wilbur Ross is a champion of American manufacturing and knows how to help companies succeed,” Trump said in the statement. “…Together, we will take on the special interests and stand up for American jobs.”

Ross served as the head of Rothschild, Inc. for twenty-five years. Part of his responsibilities there included rescuing failing companies. In addition, he also started WL Ross and Company, an investment firm.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard University.

“I am delighted to have been selected to join President-elect Trump's Cabinet and look forward to working especially closely with Steve Mnuchin to implement the economic programs which we have developed jointly to implement the President-elect's strategy for accelerating our economic growth,” Ross said in the statement.

President-elect Trump also chose Todd Ricketts to be Deputy Secretary of the Department of Commerce.

“Todd Ricketts is an immensely successful businessman with unparalleled knowledge of the finance industry,” Trump said in the statement. “As Deputy Commerce Secretary he will help us cut waste and streamline government so that it works for the people of America…”

Ricketts is currently the co-owner of the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball team. He has years of experience in the financial industry and is a graduate of Loyola University, according to the statement.

“I am honored that President-elect Donald J. Trump has asked me to serve our country at this critical juncture in our history. Advancing practical policies that promote economic opportunity is critical to making America great again,” Ricketts said in a statement.  “I'm eager to begin this important work and serving with Wilbur Ross to implement President-elect Trump's economic agenda, which will improve the lives of all Americans."

Trump arrived in Indiana this afternoon along with Vice President-elect Mike Pence to visit with workers and representatives of the Carrier Air Conditioning Company. He reportedly secured a deal for the company which will keep 1,000 American jobs in Indianapolis, Indiana.
