BREAKING: Donald Trump Wins Presidential Election
Donald Trump won the presidential election, defeating his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, after taking 276 electoral votes. The announcement came around 2:30 a.m. today after officials waited for ballots to be counted in some pivotal states, including Pennsylvania.
Races were initially too close to call in Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona and New Hampshire. He won 47.58 percent of the popular vote, as of the time of this writing, according to the Associated Press.
"It's been what they call a historic event, but to be really historic, we have to do a great job," Trump said in a post-election conference. "And I promise you that I will not let you down. We will do a great job."
Clinton ended the night with 218 electoral votes and 47.61 percent of the popular vote, according to the AP.
Trump will be sworn in as the nation's 45th president this January.
