Billy Graham Turns 98 Today
Today, legendary evangelist and minister of the Gospel Billy Graham turns 98 years old.
His son and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Franklin Graham wrote today on Facebook,
"Happy Birthday to my father Billy Graham--he's 98 today! He told us three years ago that he might live to be 100—I hope he does! He once said, “God isn’t finished with you when you retire! We never retire from His service.”
I’m heading down to visit with him today at his home, and others in the family will be there as well. I know that he appreciates your prayers."
Franklin Graham told RNS Thursday (Nov. 3) they are planning to get him one of his favorite treats to mark the special day on Monday.
“He likes these cheap birthday cakes that have that lard icing on them,” Franklin Graham said. “I’m going to go get him one of those cheap birthday cakes from the local grocery store, and we’ll celebrate his birthday.”
It's estimated that since his ministry began in 1949 Billy Graham was able to preach the gospel to over 215 million people in 185 nations, according to a report in USA Today.
Franklin Graham told WNCN news North Carolina, a CBS affiliate that his father is doing well,
“You know, he’s doing OK. He’s 98 years old. He doesn’t see very well, doesn’t hear very well, but his mind is still clear and he still has a good appetite. He just, because he doesn’t hear well, so much of the conversation he just doesn’t understand or doesn’t get. I think this is a problem for older people. They feel isolated because they can’t be a part of the conversation. They just kind of withdraw and I’ve seen that kind of in my father where he just kind of withdraws. He’s quiet. If you can ask him a question, if he can hear it, generally he’s able to respond. Short sentences, you know, one or two words is kind of his response today.”
