President-Elect Trump Selects Elaine Chao As Secretary of Transportation
President-elect Trump announced yesterday in a statement that he intends to nominate Elaine Chao as Secretary of the Department of Transportation.
“Secretary Chao’s extensive record of strong leadership and her expertise are invaluable assets in our mission to rebuild our infrastructure in a fiscally responsible manner,” Trump said in a statement. “She has an amazing life story and has helped countless Americans in her public service career. I am pleased to nominate Elaine as Secretary of the Department of Transportation.”
Chao previously served as Secretary of the Department of Labor and Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation, according to her extensive biography. In addition, she was also President and CEO of United Way of America and the Director of the Peace Corps. She has held numerous other leadership positions throughout her distinguished career, which is beyond the scope of this article.
She earned her MBA from Harvard University, an economics degree from Mount Holyoke College and is the recipient of 36 honorary doctorates.
"The President-elect has outlined a clear vision to transform our country's infrastructure, accelerate economic growth and productivity, and create good paying jobs across the country," Chao said in a statement. "I am honored to be nominated by the President-elect to serve my beloved country as Transportation Secretary."
