Steve Shackelford Named New CEO at Redeemer City to City
Dr. Timothy Keller, Chairman of the Board at Redeemer City to City, a leadership development organization founded by Keller and the church he leads in New York City, Redeemer Presbyterian Church is pleased to announce the selection of Steve Shackelford as the new CEO of Redeemer City to City (CTC).
Shackelford currently serves as President and CFO with Corporate Capital Trust, a business development company that is co-advised by CNL and KKR. The company currently has assets of approximately $4.3 billion and is one of the largest business development companies in the United States. Shackelford earned his undergraduate degree in accounting and MBA degree at Florida State University and spent ten years at the international accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers in Orlando, Paris and New York prior to joining CNL in 1996. The Board’s selection comes after an extensive five-month search conducted by executive search firm CarterBaldwin.
Dr. Keller said, “The goal of CTC is to build gospel movements in global cities. The population in cities is growing at a tremendous rate, and there has never been a greater need for churches to serve the diverse needs of cities. Developing leaders for urban ministry is at the core of our mission at CTC. As we grow in global scope, CTC needs an executive leader to navigate the increasing complexity of this movement around the world. I truly look forward to working with Steve to lead this ministry together.”
Christian Hempell, board member and chair of the search committee, stated, “Redeemer City to City is a catalyst for gospel movements in cities. To that end, CTC trains church planters, publishes content, engages ten international affiliate networks, partners with Reformed Theological Seminary, and attracts a diverse group of donor partners. Our rapid growth and global influence require a seasoned executive who can lead the ministry through the next chapter in CTC's strategy, and the Board is delighted that Steve has accepted this call."
“For many years I have watched from a distance what the Lord is doing through Redeemer and Redeemer City to City,” said Shackelford. “This is a deep call both my wife and I feel and I am humbled to serve the Board and work alongside what I know is a great team at CTC. I believe my twenty years at CNL in finance and operational leadership roles have provided me an array of experiences that I am praying the Lord will use at CTC to further Christ’s Kingdom and glorify His name all around the world."
James Seneff, executive chairman of CNL Financial Group said, “In so many countries, including our own, we see divisiveness and uncertainty. For such a time as this, Redeemer City to City is well-positioned to transform communities by anchoring churches of all denominations in communities to serve as hope and light. Steve Shackelford is the perfect choice for this role. After 20 years, I have seen Steve navigate complex business, regulatory and competitive pressures with discipline, determination, grace and humility. CNL is a better company for his important contributions, and I know the vision of CTC will thrive and prosper under his leadership.”
Shackelford will move to New York City and begin his role with CTC on February 1, 2017. He assumes leadership from Bruce Terrell, who is Executive Director of Redeemer Presbyterian Church and has served as interim CEO of CTC since February 2016.
Shackelford married his high school sweetheart, Lisa, 30 years ago. They have three adult children and one grandson. Their children live in Atlanta, Brooklyn, and Nashville.
