Jerry Falwell Jr. Considered for Trump Administration Position
Jerry Falwell Jr., President of Liberty University, the nations largest Evangelical University is being considered for Secretary of Education according to sources familiar with the situation. Falwell has been an outspoken and important supporter for Trump whose election mobilized millions of Evangelicals to vote for him. Falwell no doubt played an important role in this.
Trump's history of outspokenness and derogatory comments toward women and minorities in his past proved a stumbling block to some Evangelicals. Many however were able to overlook his sins of the past due to his commitment to appoint conservative Supreme Court Justices and his pro religious freedom and stance on abortion. These and the extreme positions of Clinton made Trump the more attractive vote for many evangelical's vote hands down.
Falwell never wavered I'm his support for Trump even when others in his party and faith advisory team did. Falwell remains willing to serve,
“I let them know one of my passions is reforming higher education and education in general,” Falwell said when speaking with the Times-Dispatch shortly after the election. “I told them I’d be willing — I have a lot of responsibilities here — but I’d be willing to serve in some capacity that sort of brings education back to some form of sanity.”
Falwell was reportedly in NY with Trump and Pence on election night and expressed an interest to both of them.
Last week Falwell again met with Trump and then told the Washington Post,
“I met with the president-elect and several of his top advisers to discuss what role I might be able to play with regard to education,” Falwell told the Washington Post on Monday. “It was a very good discussion.”
Dwell expressed his concern to.the post over regulations on education, “It’s troubling to see how much they’re micromanaging colleges and universities, using their power, through financial aid and student loan programs,” Falwell said. “That’s been a concern of mine for a long time.”
